Internet Explorer emergency patch.
Microsoft has released an
emergency security update to fix the vulnerability of Internet Explorer that has
seen the computers of at least two million users hacked. Officials at Trend
Micro say a security hole in Internet Explorer could allow hackers to take over
your computer by tricking you into visiting tainted Web sites. The "zero day"
flaw allows hackers to gain access to computers through these "hacked"
legitimate sites, jeopardizing the security of passwords, banking details, and
other personal information. It is believed that as many as 233,000 web pages
have been affected. If exploited, an attacker could use the flaw to remotely
execute code on a targeted system.
Microsoft has issued an
out-of-cycle update for Internet Explorer 6 and 7. The patch was announced
yesterday in response to a series of attacks on the unpatched flaw. It is
imperative that every computer that connects to the internet is updated with
this patch to prevent the risk of identity theft.
